There are 5 steps to becoming a SCAS Adult day student.
- Make sure you can attend.
- Go to a Registration/Orientation Session.
- Go to an individual intake appointment.
- Pick up your timetable.
- Start School!

In order to attend Adult Day School at SCAS, you must:
- Attend an orientation/registration session and a follow-up individual appointment.
- Be 21 years of age or older
students who turn 21 years of age between July 1st and December 31st may attend beginning in September or November of that year
students age 20, turning 21 between January 1st and June 30th, may attend in September of the following year - Demonstrate level-appropriate language skills in a written language assessment. The language assessment will be administered at the Orientation/Registration session.
- Pay all applicable fees
- Be a Citizen, a Permanent Resident (Landed Immigrant)
OR
a Convention Refugee with a Study Permit (Student Authorization) (the In-Take Counsellor will provide instruction on how to obtain a Study Permit) - Agree to a standard of behaviour and respect for others as outlined at the orientation/registration session
You must attend a Orientation/Registration session. At this session you will:
- Fill out/submit a registration form
- Pay a $20 assessment fee
- Write assesment tests in English and Math
- Obtain an appointment to return for an individual intake interview with a counsellor.
Orientation/Registration sessions are held several times per quad. For more information, to obtain dates and to reserve a place at our next Orientation/Registration session please visit our online form. Alternatively you can sign up for a Orientation/Registration by coming in person to the Main Office at SCAS.
If you are interested in only the Hairstyling or Carpentry programs, you must attend special Orientation/Registration sessions. Please click on the appropriate program link for more information.
This is a 45-minute interview with a Guidance Counsellor during which you and the Counsellor will:
- Review your Assessment results in Math and English
- Review your Educational Documents
- Discuss your goals
- Develop an Educational Plan and choose options or courses (these will be recorded on the Student Course Confirmation Sheet, a copy of which will be given to you)
- Assess any education completed outside the Province; this will be converted to equivalent Ontario credits.
You will also:
- Pay fees
- Receive, if necessary for Refugees, information on how to obtain Student Authorization or a Study Permit
- Receive information about Timetable Pick-Up Day
You will need to bring the following to the individual intake interview:
- Written material from the Orientation/Registration Session
- Proof of Status In Canada
Canadian Birth Certificate, Citizenship Card, Landed Papers or Permanent Resident Card, Refugee Papers, and if you have it, Valid Student Authorization or Study Permit
- Health Card Number
- Educational Documents and Transcripts
- Ontario Transcript, if available
- High School, College or University documents from outside Ontario
- Any other training/education certificates and documents
You will be resposible for the following fees:
- $40.00 (cash) for Activity Fee
- $5.00 (cash) for Toronto Adult Student Association Membership (TASA)
- This money is non-refundable
- All fees must be paid before we can register you
A Few Important Reminders:
- Registration depends on course availability. Some courses fill quickly and others may be cancelled if they do not fill.
- To be registered, fees must be paid. Fees are non-refundable and must be in cash. Credit Cards and cheques are not accepted.
- Placement in courses, or even registration at SCAS, depends upon language skills as demonstrated on the SCAS Language Assessment.
What Will Happen On Timetable Pick-Up Day?
- Pay $100.00 Refundable Book Deposit
- Pick up your personal timetable showing subjects, teachers, room locations, and times
- If new to SCAS, have your picture taken and receive your SCAS Card, which must be worn at all times
What Do I Need To Bring To Timetable Pick-Up Day?
- $100.00 (cash) Refundable Book Deposit, if you are new to SCAS or returning after an absence
- Your Student Course Confirmation Sheet received at your Individual Intake Interview
Attend Day 1 of the term and follow the courses scheduled on your timetable.
