At the Orientation/Registration Meeting, you will write an English Assessment. If your language skills are not strong enough to be successful at SCAS, the Counsellor will refer you to the appropriate program in another school.

Yes, you must be 21 years of age or older to attend the SCAS Adult Program.

Students aged 20, turning 21 between July 1st and December 31st, can attend the Adult Program beginning in September of that Calendar Year.

Student aged 20, turning 21 between January 1st and June 30th, may not attend the Adult Program until September of the following school year.

You must be a Citizen, a Landed Immigrant/Permanent Resident, or a Convention Refugee with a valid Study Permit or Student Authorization.

Yes, however, you will not be required to complete English and Math Assessments or pay an Assessment Fee. After hearing the Information Talk, you will be given an appointment date to return to see a Counsellor to pick subjects. The Activity Fee of $40.00 is due at that time.

Yes, you must have a career or educational goal and agree to take only certain courses that lead to that goal.

Yes, we will evaluate your documents and award Ontario Equivalent Credits for your other education.

The school year is divided into 4 quads or terms. Thus, you can begin at SCAS 4 times per year… in September, November, February, and April.

Each day is divided into 3 periods, each 2 hours long.

Period 1 - 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Period 2 - 10:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
Period 3 - 1:20 p.m. to 3:20 p.m.

Students may attend SCAS for 2 hours, 4 hours, or 6 hours per day. However, each class must be attended daily, Monday through Friday, at the same time.

No, there is no Night School at SCAS. However, SCAS students have the opportunity to attend both Night and Summer School operated by the Toronto District School Board - Continuing Education in various locations across Toronto.

Yes, we have the Outreach Co-Op Program, a 4-credit package designed for those who hold a daytime job and cannot attend school during regular daytime school hours. Please see the full description in the Program Description section.

You need:

-at least 30 credits
-4 of those credits must be at the Grade 11 or 12 level
-ENG4C (Grade 12 English)
-OLC4O (Ontario Literacy Credit)

Each course is worth 1 credit. In addition to individual courses, there are 8 packages consisting of 2 or more courses. These packages are: Hairstyling; Carpentry; Co-Op/Canadian Work Experience program; Small Business Management in the Business/Computers program; and 4 packages in the ESL program. We do offer a few University Preparation Level courses, currently in the English and the Science programs. Check the course descriptions in those programs for more details.

No, adults may apply as 'Mature Students'. However, each college program has specific requirements, including course pre-requisites, that must be met.

No, there is no tuition. However, there are non-refundable fees associated with going to SCAS. Orientation/Assessment Fee - $20.00; Activity Fee - $40.00; Toronto Adult Student Assoc. (TASA) - $5.00. There is a Special Materials Fee for the Hairstyling and Carpentry Programs.

All books and materials are provided. There is a $100.00 Book Deposit that is refunded when all books and materials are returned.

No, SCAS is not a Post-Secondary Institution that charges Tuition Fees.

No, students must provide their own means of financial support while attending SCAS.

While this is possible, it is up to you to negotiate with your E.I. Worker.

Daily attendance is required and success at SCAS depends upon good attendance. Poor attendance or chronic lateness could result in removal from a course or program.

Language levels as shown by the Intake Assessment Test determine placement in programs at SCAS and, indeed, entry to SCAS. Previous education and transcripts also play a role in program placement. Many courses at SCAS require the completion of a pre-requisite subject. Please see the Course Description section.

No, SCAS graduates receive the same Ontario Secondary School Diplomas as any other Ontario Resident of any age.
