Evaluation Policy

  • Students are to be provided with a course of study including the overall curriculum expectations, the units and explanations of the assessments and evaluations as they pertain to the curriculum.
  • All students are to receive frequent assessments and evaluations throughout the term.
  • 70% of the final grade will be based on ongoing evaluations.
  • 30% of the final grade will be based on a final evaluation or culminating activities administered toward the end of the course.

  • Late assignments may be accepted after the due date until an “Ultimate Deadline” date (the day the graded evaluation is returned) and 10% may be deducted from the total mark.
  • Assignments completed after the ultimate deadline date will not be accepted if the student would be advantaged by viewing a marked assignment.
  • At the teachers’ discretion, a student may be given the opportunity to complete a make–up evaluation.
  • Quizzes are useful for assessment purposes. There are no opportunities to write missed quizzes.
  • For missed final (summative) evaluations, the student will provide to the Vice Principal(s) the appropriate medical or legal documentation, otherwise a mark of zero will be given.

Plagiarism is defined as presenting someone else’s words and ideas as one’s own.

Types include:

  • submitting work written by someone else, e.g., an essay from a website, or by another student.
  • Piecing together material from one or several sources and adding only linking sentences.
  • Quoting, copying, pasting or paraphrasing published material, without citing the source.
  • Not providing quotation marks for direct quotations when sources have been cited.
When plagiarism is detected, the following process will be followed:

  • The teacher will discuss the matter with the student.
  • A mark of zero will be given for the assignment in question.
  • The Vice-Principal(s) will be informed.

  • No marks shall be deducted or awarded for effort, co-operation, and punctuality. These are recognised in the Learning Skills categories.
  • For group work, each student in the group shall receive an individual evaluation.
  • Students shall have access to their current marks and how they were calculated.
  • Discussion of marks with the teacher shall occur at a mutually agreed upon time.
  • By mid term (Day 23) teachers shall inform students of their academic progress.
  • Day 26 in any Quad represents the last day of disclosure for senior level courses (11 & 12). Grades for courses dropped after this date will appear on the student’s record.
